Queen Rearing: Barrie Powell
For our May members meeting we return to our regular meeting venue at Red Gables in Stowmarket, but this time on a Tuesday evening instead of our regular Thursday
It is the time of year that Beekeepers interested in improving their stock turn their attention to rearing new Queens, and we are very fortunate to have one of the most experienced Queen rearers living in Suffolk. Some of you will know Barrie Powell from attending one of his many training courses run at his apiaries in Shotley, and Barrie has kindly agreed to come along and share his considerable knowledge and expertise on the techniques he has found most successful for rearing new Queens.
Barrie’s Beekeeping skills were recently recognised by BBKA with an award for a lifetime contribution to beekeeping and there is little he has not seen or done in the world of Beekeeping. He is also one of a small band of Beekeepers who has had the privilege of working with the world recognised Brother Adam at Buckfast Abbey
Barrie’s experience and approachable nature will provide Stowmarket Beekeepers with an excellent opportunity to get an expert view on any and all aspects of Beekeeping so this is really an event not to be missed
As usual, it would be very helpful to know in advance, how many members to expect, so please drop me an e mail at the address below if you would like to come along.
